Stainless steel is an iron alloy which contains chromium at 10% or more by weight. It is the addition of chromium that gives the steel its unique "stainless" , corrosion resistant properties. The chromium content allows the formation of an invisible passive layer on the surface. The film is self-healing as long as it is exposed to oxygen. 18/8 stainless steel is 18% chromium and 8% nickel.
It is one of the most hygienic surface metals. Its sterile characteristics make it suitable for medical and scientific applications and food service products. Stainless steel does not react to acidic foods during preparation or cooking. It is very food safe. All items are dishwasher safe. Items with wood, or buffalo horn are not. We recommend that products with brass accents be hand-washed to maintain the lacquer coating protection. For cold platters, mixed salads or frozen desserts, stainless steel trays and bowls maintain the chill of refrigeration longer.
